irritated bowel therapy

irritated bowel disorder OVERVIEW

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a problem that affects the large intestine. It can cause abdominal cramping, bloating, and a change in bowel habits. Some people with the disorder have constipation. Some have diarrhea. Others go back and forth between the two. Although IBS can cause a great deal of discomfort, it does not harm the intestines.  It affects about twice as many women as men and is most often found in people younger than 45 years.

effectiveness

Thirteen studies of Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy for people suffering with Crohn's disease were recently done along with 6 studies for ulcerative colitis. In all studies, participants had severe disease refractory to standard medical treatments, including corticosteroids, immunomodulators and anti-inflammatory medications. In patients with Crohn's disease, 31/40 (78%) had clinical improvements with Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, while all 39 patients with ulcerative colitis improved.
